About

Langbrett and Patagonia: the search is over.

After an extensive search, Langbrett has finally found a responsible brand partner.

Langbrett co-founder Oliver Spies started his first business in 1992. Although very common today, Oliver’s idea of producing clothing free of harmful chemicals didn’t seem too promising back then.

In 1993, after a challenging first year, he launched his first small collection of “nature cotton” shirts, sweaters and bed linen.

Since then, Oliver has continued to involve local companies in producing designs for clothes, shoes and many other handmade products—especially Longboards from locally grown massiv wood.

Together with his partner and fiancé Annette Bruns and longtime friend Alex Biehn, Oliver founded the Langbrett label in 2008. Focusing on surfboards, longboards and related equipment, the brand also sells a range of outdoor-related, locally produced and environmentally friendly products.

In order to both diversify their shop and to offer their customers a wider range of products, Oliver and his team began an exhaustive yet ultimately disappointing search for a partner brand that met their high standards for quality and environmental responsibility.

In 2006, during a business trip (well, half business and half surf trip) through North America, the Langbrett crew dropped into a Patagonia shop in Santa Monica and rediscovered a brand that in the late 80’s and early 90’s had had huge success in Europe, but never made much of an impact on the German market.

Needless to say, the Langbrett crew loved Patagonia’s philosophy, environmental responsibility, and their outstanding commitment in maintaining relationships with companies abroad.

After coming into contact with Patagonia representative Malte Ilemann in 2009, the Langbrett crew has begun to raise awareness of Patagonia’s products to help solidify its position in the German market. The partnership has begun to blossom in 2010 in the heart of Berlin.

Langbrett—a locally-owned brand with massive potential, and Patagonia—a widely respected, world renowned company, are coming together to offer Berlin and the German market a wide variety of the highest-quality, environmentally-friendly products possible.

Patagonia now has a home in the Langbrett shop, and already many customers are embracing Patagonia and its products just like Langbrett’s handmade wooden longboards from the sunny hills of East German Erzgebirge.

Langbrett are a small group of surfers who, in 2008, came together to find a way to make the Urban landscape surfable.

Surfing from the ocean to the streets.

The rhythm and movement of Longboarding closely parallels that of surfing, and we have created our own blend of skateboards made from the highest quality woods from the forest of Saxon-Erzgebirgen. Equipped with SEISMIC trucks and wheels, our boards offer the complete street-surfing experience.
We also design our own apparel. With Sweaters, Hoodies, Jeans, Shoes and other accessories, our products offer a welcome relief from typical big label mass-production.
